Mike McGrath works with an invention called a tachometer--a machine that can both see and transport a person to the future. But when he inadvertently causes the machine to malfunction, he and many others are blasted into the future where things in North America are very different. He soon becomes a pampered slave of a domineering government bent on getting the tachometer back up and running. Normally, a scientist would relish such a gig, but as he falls more in love with his new time and the people he meets there, he realizes that messing with time travel can be dangerous business...

The whole premise of this book was fascinating, and I enjoyed the subtle Christian elements that brought up themes that transcend time and technology. There were moments that reminded me of John Grisham's THE FIRM and other thriller's with Big Brother watchers, and that always gives me a satisfying set of shivers. Ironically for a story about time travel, there were plot fast-forwards that just didn't work for me. We'd suddenly skip ahead days, weeks, or even months, and it left holes in some of the character development. The result was an interesting plot arc, but a lack of emotional intensity because I wasn't inside the characters' heads/hearts enough. It never quite punched me in the gut when it should have. That said, I am intrigued by what comes next and will definitely want to follow the series as it develops.

Nightfall really held my interest and gave me good for thought. The storyline didn't always go the way I thought it would!
When Micah McGrath accidentally sends himself on a one-way trip into the future, he lands himself on the wrong side of the law. But he soon discovers that his loss of freedom is the least of his problems. Nightfall felt like it was part of a much larger story crossing generations and historical eras, and a couple times it made reference to events and people that were outside of the book. A reasonably well paced story, there were times that the tension of the scene was overwhelming, leaving me breathless. For those readers who enjoy Sci-Fi adventures, this is a fun read.
Have you ever imagined the effects a simple accident could have on your future? What about the future of your friends, family, the whole town, or possibly even more? What if it was your fault, but you weren’t quite certain as to how it happened or how to fix it – or if it were even possible?

“Nightfall” starts in the life of Micah McGrath at the very moment his screwdriver slips “just the tiniest bit.” An innocent accident, a mere second, that’s all it took to instantly change things for Mike, his friend, and more. We follow him as he searches for answers while receiving help from those he knows in his past, present, and future. Will he be snatched back into the past, be forced to live in the future, or be “liquidated” for what he knows?

The story is adventurous and humorous at times, but I felt there needed to be a greater sense of suspense built up throughout the telling of it. Opportunity was there, but it seemed like it was only glanced over instead of giving the reader a better view of the author’s imagination of the events taking place. A deeper development of the characters would have helped also, allowing us to understand, appreciate, and care for them more. Although, this may be the author’s intent to develop them overtime as the series continues, and “Nightfall” is apparently the prequel to “The Tyke McGrath Series.”

Good read, just believe it could be so much more.
